    Fabulous

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Buchan Hotel which was very centrally located; in a peaceful neighborhood, just a short walk to Stanley Park, close to frequent bus service( including the Express Bus from the ferries at Horseshoe Bay) and in a walkable distance to Robson and downtown vanocuver shopping, close to great restaraunts. The Buchan Hotel is a family friendly older hotel with high ceilings and wide hallways, Our room had a bath and a queen sized bed with good quality bedding. The room itself was sparcely decorated but very clean and smoke free. We particularly enjoyed the big soft bath towels refreshed each day. We definately will make an effort to stay there again when going to the big city. .

Being an older building some noise filtered from the hallway and adjoining rooms

    Fabulous

Location , Location, Location at this price? unheard of! his was the second time I've stayed at the Buchan Hotel. Really if you want a place in the heart of the city that is affordable you cannot be the location or the price of this hotel. Nestled in the midst of the west end among residential homes and apartments you are just a hop skip and a jump from Stanley Park. Just off Denman Street transportation to the downtown shopping district is a quick bus ride right to the heart of it. Or stroll downtown as you explore the wonderful Robson street shops. How do they do it? The Hotel itself, though clean and well present, leaves frills at the door. You may share a bathroom with the other guests. You won't have a newspaper brought to your door -though there is one or two to read in the comfortable library. You won't have lush carpets or fancy fixtures, but you will have a comfortable bed with clean linen. Think old English Inn. The staff are very cheerful and professional. I had booked the single room with shared bath and they upgraded me to one with a bath without being asked, I was thrilled! The location is super quiet even though it's downtown it's situation is such that the tree lined streets block the city noise and you wake to chirping birds instead. If you find yourself missing the luxury a morning walk in Stanley Park will soon erase those thoughts from your head.

    Fabulous

Good location which suited our needs

Room 20, very good; second stay room 46 layout not so good.

    Very good

it felt safe and was central Parking available.

the overpowering smell of air freshener lack of independent tea/coffee making facilities I would recommend the hotel to some of my friends but not all, the room I had (8) was shabby but served it's purpose and was cheap so that suited me.

    Superb

I love the price as well as the location - close to the beach & walking distance to everything - stanley park as well. This is the second time I stayed at the hotel and I will be returning in the summer., It would be nice if the rates were as low in the summer as I paid in April.

Other tenants coming into the building late & it was noisy..someone kept slamming a door in 1 am & loud talking. also I felt cold in my room and there was no hot water in the room sink or the shower in the hallway.

    Very good

Central location a bonus - handy to English Bay beach and Stanley Park. Reception staff were very good, friendly and helpful. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and found it value for money

A phone should be provided in each room. Coffee should be available in the evenings as well as in the mornings.

    Superb

The location! The price was next to none! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

The light socket next to the bed did not work so we were unable to use the lamp. Not a big deal but a bit inconvenient when we retired for the evening.

    Good

Location (close to Coal Harbour and the entrance to Stanley Park); staff were friendly and courteous.

Tired decor and furnishings in lounge and in our room (No.41). Damaged wallpaper and plaster in our room had merely been painted over. There was no lift and no wi-fi at all and there were no room telephones - to be fair none were advertised. The electric sockets were almost impossible to access and were on the rickety side. A large party of young school kids were left to run around, apparently unsupervised, until after 10pm on the night of our arrival. Admittedly we had just had a cross Atlantic flight from Glasgow and were exhausted BUT ... ! A huge investment is required in this hotel...if there is none I suggest that the word 'hostel' should replace 'hotel' in the title.with prices to match.

    Good

    Location!!

The rooms we stayed in the first night were pretty smelly, abutting the garbage collection in the back. Not really acceptable, but they did move us to a better room after that.

    Superb

Blocks from Stanley Park, one block from Vancouver's bustling, vibrant Denman Street, the Buchan Hotel sits in an oasis of calm. The rooms are a little shabby, but clean - the staff is friendly - the price is right. I'd surely stay there again. Location, location, location. And some of the money you save on lodging you can spend at the Adesso Restaurant just out the front door. Wow.

I don't mind spartan, but I'm glad I brought our own pillows from home. The pillows on the bed were slabs of foam. Also, the room had no iron, which means, bring your own or suffer the wrinkles; no coffee/tea maker; and wi-fi access was non-existent (although we paid a nominal fee for a password, it didn't extend to our first floor room 50 feet down the hall from the front desk. All of these are small annoyances that could pretty easily be solved. In the end, we weren't visiting V'couver for the hotel, so they never rose to the level of real irritation.

    Very good

The room was quiet; no problem sleeping.

The internet service was sub-par. Internet speed was similar to dial up. If this doesn't improve I would choose a different hotel.

    Good

Fantastic locattion. Coffee down the hall in the mornings was nice touch. We could walk to everything.

As a family, a few more amenities would be nice. Parking can be tough. Expect small rooms

    Good

Great location, walking distance to the beach, Stanley Park and good restaurants. Fair price for what you get.

If you leave food out of containers, you get rats... in your room. The hotel really needs some renovation/investment - mold is shoving up a little everywhere. Rooms do NOT have refrigerators.

    Very good

Lovely location Clean room pleasant staff very economical close to the best places, quite nice tv

Somewhat primitive bathroom and showers even for a shared situation

  • 9.2
    Superb

The location was excellent in the nicest ,part of the city but with easy links to downtown and in a quiet residential naighbourhood. TH estaff couldn't be more helpful and were very knowledgeable about teh city.

The seperate bathroom was a bit shabby but still clean. It wasa bit inconvenient only having a toilet and wash basin in the room, but thisd is counter acted by the cost which is very reasonable. THis is only asmall critisism fro what is on the whole , a great place to stay
